Soft Fruit Growers
During the past ten years, the soft fruit industry has been completely transformed from growing in soil & peat to growing almost entirely in coir based media. The principal reason is the all-important perfect physical structure which is maintained over a far longer period than the more physically delicate peat moss that breaks down into very small particles in a matter of months after watering and fertigation regimes are introduced. This physical structure ensures the optimum air porosity and water retention required for the best root development. Unlike peat, coir can be used to achieve excellent results for two or more growing seasons. Unlike rock-wool, it is not harmful to the environment and, being organically based, it presents no disposal difficulties at the end of its useful life. In fact, at that stage, it can be used as a soil ameliorant on the farm.
Horticultural Coir Ltd, working with our partners Green Neem, Harvel Cocopeat and Vel Coir factories, as part of Espafibrac group, have long been the leaders in terms of experience, R & D and technical excellence with over 20 years of study and research in the physical and chemical qualities of cocopeat and how to make the best-performing media.
Because of our experience and technical knowledge, we now produce many different outstanding products from fine mixes for seedlings and cuttings in small plugs through to mixes designed for 12 foot (3 metre) high trees in 500-litre pots.
